When you Google something, anyone else on the network can see what you Googled. When you Google something from this Google site, nobody can see what you Googled, because the information exchanged between your computer and the Google server is encrypted with SSL.
Read about SSL here, and how to hack SSL (it is not foolproof) here.
is there a way to always search Google using SSL when signed in?
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to find a way to do that in Google's settings anywhere. I am hoping to find a way to change the list of default search engines Safari 5 offers in its search box to include Google SSL. You can easily change your Safari 5 home page in Safari -> Preferences -> General -> Home Page.
ReplyDeleteHere are two different ways to change Safari's built-in search field behavior. I haven't tried either.
